DPA!’s Pawesome Person: September Foster Spotlight

What makes Jim so awesome is that he doesn’t shy away from any sort of foster case and he will take on a foster for as long as it takes. Jim is all about commitment until his fosters are adopted and tends to go for the adult bully breeds or other looked over animals. Jim’s fosters get to enjoy all the pleasures a dog could ask for including movie nights and day trips to the beach! We are so lucky to have him as a foster for us!

Caitlin joined our Adoptions Team when we were beginning our cat adoption program. She became an essential part of building the cat adoption side of that team and worked closely with our Adoption Director, TNR Director, and Foster/Medical Director in order to put our current policies and procedures in place to have the best outcome for our cats and kittens. Caitlin has a passion and the customer service skills needed to work closely with adopters and fosters to achieve the best match making possible in pairing adopters with their purrfect furever feline. Caitlin assisted in pioneering unknown territory for DPA and I know for a fact without her involvement this side of our program would have struggled to grow the way it has been able to over the past year. Thanks to Caitlin’s hard work and dedication we were able to assist our TNR program in rehoming cats and kittens that were adoptable and not eligible for release, while also enabling our cat program to take off after years of trying. Caitlin is part of the reason we were finally able to become Dallas PETS Alive!

Amy is a huge advocate of the families that usually get overlooked. The shelter is always full of moms and puppies, but we can count on the Fisher family to open up their home to a mom and her 7,8, or puppies! In her house they are safe to grow, play and recover.
DPA!’s Pawesome Person: July Volunteer Spotlight

Meghan has become the heart and soul of our events area. She has volunteered at 3-4 events every month since she joined DPA, and knows the process inside and out. She trains new event volunteers and helps with every aspect of events including supervising dogs, talking to the public about DPA and opportunities to support us, merchandise sales, and logistics of the event sites. She has also taken over coordinating foster pet attendance at events and in addition to keeping the details immaculately organized, finds time to inject a little humor into her communications which is a breath of fresh air. I do not know what we would do without her, but it would take several people to fill her shoes.

“Michele never ceases to amaze me. She is a dedicated volunteer on our Medical team responsible for ensuring all our little ones have registered microchips for their safety should they ever get lost. As our sole feline alumni counselor she is responsible for our cats well being post adoption.” – Jessica Weinstein, Vice President of Animal Operations
Recap: DPA!’s 5th Annual Pup Crawl in Deep Ellum

275 people and dogs walk into a bar, five bars to be exact. The punchline? No joke here. The rest is record-breaking Dallas Pets Alive! Pup Crawl history. On May 28, 2017, DPA hosted its 5th annual Pup Crawl in Deep Ellum. Volunteers, adopters, fosters, and hundreds of other awesome people from around the community got together to do what we do best, drink beer and play with puppies!
DPA!’s Pawesome Person: May Foster Spotlight

“Debbie has saved many lives by fostering dogs over the last few years with DPA! She is always willing to step up and foster dogs at risk of euthanasia… the dogs who literally have hours left to live, and no matter if the timing is right or wrong, Debbie always says yes and finds a way to make it work. She has fostered a few heartworm positive dogs too, which is a bit of a longer commitment because treatment lasts at least a few months. Debbie has such a big heart for bully breeds, which have a harder time getting adopted due to misconceptions and unfair reputations. She has worked with dogs with various behavioral and medical needs, and has always committed to fostering a dog until it is adopted, no matter how long it takes. In fact, she is currently fostering our Dog of the Month, Zephyr, who has been searching for her forever home for a full year, and Suzy, who has been on the hunt for a family for 7 months! These two dogs are fabulous, dog friendly, happy girls, but for some reason they just haven’t found their perfect match. Debbie has never complained about the length of time a dog spends at her home, but continues to love them and care for them no matter what! She is in it for the long haul, and we so appreciate her commitment to helping our pups who need it most!”, says Allison Brandon, Foster and Medical Director for Dallas Pets Alive!
