2018 – The Year of the Dog and What that Means for You!
If you were waiting for a sign to adopt a dog, this is your sign for the next year. Starting February 16th, 2018 we will be in the Year of the Dog according to the Chinese zodiac calendar. In the Chinese calendar every year is represented by one of twelve zodiac animals in a twelve month cycle. Each twelve year cycle is designated with an element rotating between metal, wood, water, fire, and earth. This year, 2018, is represented by an Earth Dog. The last occurrence of a Dog was in 2006, and the last Earth Dog was in 1958! This means that anyone born during this year will inherit the Earth Dog characteristics of being communicative, serious, and responsible – much like famous celebrities, Madonna and Michael Jackson, who were both born as Earth Dogs!

Al Green was in pretty bad shape when Dallas Pets Alive! found him. He was underweight, tatted with battle scars and heartworm positive. With the help of his amazing foster family, his foster sister Betty, and his adoptive dad’s huge heart, he landed a spot at the top.

Heartworm positive and homeless, Lady Guadalupe landed a wonderful foster family just in time for the holidays. But before Dallas Pets Alive! took her in and got her the medical treatment she needed to get healthy, she had a pretty tough time and ended up in the shelter.
DPA!’s Dog the Month – June: Meet Elliot!
Meet Elliott, a Staffordshire Terrier mix with a playful nature known for affectionately following her favorite people around the house and befriending others with her winsome charm. She’s (yes, Elliot is a girl!) an attractive brown and white pup with a stocky build and deep brown eyes who looks good in a green feather boa but prefers to be seen near–or on top of–her favorite people. Whether she is curled up in the crook of your knees or playing with the other dogs she lives with, she is an affectionate companion who craves your company.
