Meet the always hungry Smokey but I call him Smoke Dawg. He is a 4-year-old 65 lb Rottweiler, with a tank-like body and a lovable demeanor.
I got Smokey from a relative three weeks ago to give him a good life until I can rehome him. Smokey’s life up until this point hasn’t been the best. His first owners were abusive and the family member I got him from neglected his health. When I got him and took him to the vet, he was diagnosed with hook worms, whip worms, heart worms, and had an infected patch of skin on his back while also being tick and flea infested and hadn’t been bathed in years. He also has weak back legs that buckle and the therapist believes he either has hip dysplasia or tore both ACLs at some point and never got to heal properly.
Since getting him, he’s been given all of his vaccinations, been microchipped, treated for his GI worms, started on his heartworm treatment, treated for his flea and ticks and been given preventative, given a steroid for his infected skin, and given an immunosuppressant for his constant scratching. He would often times scratch until he bled and not sleep. He has since improved drastically and is much more energetic and stronger. He’s such a fighter.
Smokey is a calm yet playful pup who loves to wrestle, go on walks, bark at random things passing by, and most of all, eat. Smokey is one to always beg for food and will eat just about anything in front of him. He/she gets along with dogs but cats are unknown and currently lives with Indy, my other dog. He doesn’t have much history with other animals aside from Indy and they get along well even if he eats all her snacks she tries to save for later. Smokey likes to cuddle up with his humans and play fight until he’s tired. Hint: playing with him gets him to go potty. An ideal home for Smokey would be one with a yard for him to run around in and toys to chew on. He’s a big chewer and loves a good bone or piece of rough clothing. Smokey, at his heart, is an outside dog best suited for a backyard to laze around in. He does well inside but can get restless and make a bit of a mess so beware.
Smokey is crate trained but will bark until he tires and then sleep all day, leash trained but sometimes like to hunker down to finish sniffing, and house trained but will mark every now and then if left unsupervised, and knows Sit, Gimme Paw, and Catch. I’m currently teaching how to give his other paw and lay down. He is one smart pup! Smokey loves car rides and to let the wind blow through his jowls. He also loves just about any treat you give him. He is not picky unless it’s vegetables! He’s a machine.
Oh, also, the cutest thing he does is walk in circles around you and make deep grunting noises out of excitement when you’re home.
This adorable pup is deserving of the perfect furever home. Could it be with you? Apply to adopt Smokey today!
