At 5 years old and 55 pounds, Sarge is a handsome and athletic Black Mouth Cur with an expressive face that lights up when it’s time for belly rubs, squeaky toys, or a game of fetch! Sarge has never met a stranger – only new best friends! His temperament is a wonderful blend of playful energy and loyal companionship. He loves being active outdoors, especially when there is a ball involved, but inside the home he is happy to just be with his humans, nearby to clean up any crumbs from your cooking or warm up your feet while you watch a show at night. And if you need your space sometimes, he is very content to take a nap in his crate or bask in the sunshine outdoors while guarding your yard against unwanted critters. He is affectionate, enthusiastic (especially if treats are involved!), and loves being a part of family life. Sarge is up to date on all medical care, including his rabies vaccination, is neutered, and microchipped – all ready for a smooth transition into his forever home.
Sarge would thrive in an active household with a fenced yard, where he can run and explore. He is always up for a walk or game of fetch, and then just as ready for a nap afterwards! While he does well with children, his enthusiastic nature may make him a better match for families with older kids. Sarge needs to be the only pet in the home, as he can be reactive toward other dogs and has not been exposed to cats. Otherwise, he is very adaptable and will happily join you for both the big adventures and simple daily routines.
Sarge is crate trained and house trained. He knows a few basic commands and shows great potential to learn more! On-leash walking is a work in progress, but he is eager to learn and would benefit from continued training with someone willing to invest a little time and consistency. With the arrival of a new baby and increasing work demands, Sarge’s owners have made the difficult decision to seek a new home for him after getting to love him for the past 4 years since adopting him from a shelter. He is a cherished companion, and they are committed to finding a family who can give him the time and attention he needs and deserves.
