July Fourth reminds us of the true meaning of freedom, belonging, and a forever home.
In August 2022, the Mesquite Animal Shelter received a call about an abandoned dog in an empty house. Left to fend for herself after her litter had been taken or sold, was a skinny, three-year-old blue and white Terrier Pit. Despite her circumstances, she remained cheerful and peppy, inspiring the shelter staff to name her Lark.
Lark swiftly became the MAS Staff favorite, charming everyone with her endearing eyes and friendly character. After putting on some healthy weight and overcoming heartworms, she was ready for adoption. Days turned into weeks, and weeks into months, until May 2023 — when she was spotted by a DPA volunteer.
Throughout her time in foster care, she proved to be so much more than friendly. She got along with other dogs, was always on her best behavior, and loved giving kisses. She even became star pupil of her training classes. As the days ticked by, she inspired all with her steadfast positivity.
295 days later, Lark’s patience was rewarded. A compassionate family found her profile on our website and instantly fell in love. When they met in person, there was no denying they were a match. Lark’s tail wagged furiously as she showered her new family with kisses. After nearly two years of waiting, she was finally going home — just in time to celebrate her first Fourth of July with her new family. Learn more in Lark’s Happy Tail video below!
