DPA!’s Dog of the Month – January: Meet Stella!

Say hello to the charming Stella, a female Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler Mixed with soft light brown and cream coloring and a winsome smile!  This unique girl is a study in contrasts — she is both cuddly and independent, prefers not to bark but loves to talk, and is an affectionate cuddle bug but likes to choose who, where and when.

An update regarding the incident at Klyde Warren Park

As you know, there was an incident at one of our adoption events earlier this month where a rescue dog bit a child. After taking the time to perform a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, we have come to the conclusion that Rusty (the rescue dog), who has no history of aggressive behavior or biting, most likely bit the child out of fear.

DPA!’s Pawesome Person: December Foster Spotlight

Although Julie is new to the foster team, she has made such an impact in her short amount of time with DPA. We know that if a dog is in need of immediate transport to the vet or a temporary place to stay in order to leave the shelter, Julie will step up to the plate. She always has our dogs and cats in mind and will do whatever is needed to save their lives. She radiates generosity and compassion for not only the animals but the other fosters in our organization. It is people like Julie that make our community so strong and impact so great. I am excited to watch her grow in this organization and help save more lives.  – Stefanie Steiner, Foster Director for Dallas Pets Alive!

Statement Regarding the Incident at Klyde Warren Park

We are aware of the incident that happened over the weekend and have been working closely with authorities (a police report was filed and we are awaiting a copy of the report at this time) and the family involved so we can gain a full understanding of what took place. Our first priority always is the safety of potential adopters and children who attend our events.

Dallas Pets Alive! Tweens & Teenagers

“Everybody loves a baby!” It’s a commonly used phrase when a family welcomes a new addition, but the same holds true when it comes to pets, especially for ones that are in need of forever homes. While kittens and puppies are oh, so adorable, there are many benefits to adopting a slightly more mature, but still young, pet.

10 Tips for Holiday Pet Safety

As the holidays are getting closer, it’s important to set yourself up for success while celebrating with your pets. To help avoid costly or frightening accidents, try these ten tips:

1. Be careful your pets don’t get ahold of any snacks outside of their regular diet. Make sure they don’t have access to dangerous food like sweets, turkey, yeast dough, and other table scraps including onions, grapes, and fatty foods.
2. Ornaments, tinsel and other festive tree decorations can be dangerous for pets if ingested. Be sure to keep ornaments and decorations out of reach of all your pets.
