The generosity of Esther and Bobby Mooring AND their expert gift wrapping skills for Dallas Pets Alive! are a few of our favorite things!
Gift Wrapping For A Cause
If you stop by the Barnes and Noble at 2201 Preston Rd in Plano, you will find two of the most dedicated and selfless volunteers south of the North Pole…probably behind a huge pile of beautifully wrapped gifts. As the holidays approach, Santa might be busily making toys for good girls and boys but Esther and Bobby Mooring and their crew of merry volunteers are busily gift wrapping presents for the good folks in the Dallas-Ft. Worth Metroplex who have more gifts to wrap than the time to wrap them.
If you would like to roll up your sleeves and get involved, please click here to wrap gifts with Esther or email her at esthermooring@verizon.net.
During what most people would describe as the busiest time of the year, the Moorings have made the time to donate countless hours gift wrapping over the last 29 years. The cause that is near and dear to their hearts is the plight of homeless pets and since they got started on this journey way back in 1995, these two now semi-pro gift wrappers have raised over $155,000 for animal rescues.
Esther and Bobby, along with their fellow volunteers, set up shop in the music section of the Plano Barnes and Noble and wrap gifts every day from November 28 to December 24 between the hours of 10 AM and 7 PM. The Moorings underwrite the cost of all the gift wrapping supplies so that every penny raised goes to support the life-saving work at Dallas Pets Alive! With the rising costs of surgeries and medical procedures, proceeds from the Moorings’ gift wrapping has saved and improved the lives of countless homeless dogs and cats right here in North Texas.
While you wait or while you shop, this delightful team of volunteers will provide gift wrapping in your choice of many different styles and wraps all for a small but meaningful donation to help homeless pets in need.
Volunteer Wrappers Are Needed
Because Thanksgiving and Black Friday fell late in November this year, the Moorings’ gift wrapping season was shortened by five days and additional elves are desperately needed to help handle the volume of requests. Shoppers are coming in a steady stream every day for gift wrapping and Esther and her amazing team of volunteers are busily trying to keep up.
By signing up to help, you’ll not only learn new and valuable gift wrapping skills but you will also be helping our DPA Adoptable Pets find their forever homes, maybe even in time for the holidays this year.
If this will be your first time gift wrapping with Esther, we suggest not waiting until the last week to “get your feet wet” because it may be overwhelming with all the last minute shoppers and their gifts. If you can, please try to do a shift early on in the season and then come back and test your mettle when it gets really busy closer to the holidays.
You Are Helping Homeless Pets Like Tay Tay
Whether you are volunteering with Esther or you are bringing in your gifts to be wrapped, you will be helping deserving cats and dogs like DPA alum, Tay Tay, find their forever homes.
Beautiful Tay Tay was abandoned at a Texas shelter and her time to be adopted was just about up. A DPA! volunteer found her at the last moment and rescued her from a looming euthanasia deadline. Vital funds raised from events like Esther’s gift wrapping helped Tay Tay overcome her stubborn kennel cough, complete her Good Pup training course, and finally helped find her a forever home all in time for Christmas last year.
