Naga first came to the Humane Society of Dallas County as a young puppy, full of potential and ready for a home. But her journey didn’t go as planned. After being adopted, she was later returned following an incident in the home. Back at the shelter, Naga struggled. The environment was overwhelming, and she showed signs of stress, she didn’t enjoy being handled, was wary of strangers, and exhibited resource guarding behaviors. All of these things made it harder for adopters to see past her challenges. Days turned into months, and months into years. Naga waited a total of 936 days for her second chance.
But everything changed when the right person came along. Her adopter saw beyond the behavioral support and recognized who Naga truly was. With the added support of a Canine and Behavior Manager on staff, they were able to create a plan that set both Naga and her adopter up for success. Through patience, guidance, and consistency, Naga slowly began to adjust to life outside the shelter.
Today, Naga, now Nala, is living the life she always deserved. Safe, loved, and completely spoiled, she’s a reminder that some animals just need time, understanding, and the right support system to thrive.
