Powerful Partners: PASS & Champions Club

As many of you may remember, Stephanie and her beloved dog, Dice, have been on a challenging journey that has touched countless hearts. We have some uplifting news to share about these two very special members of the DPA! community — including how our Positive Alternatives to Shelter Surrender (PASS) program and Champions Club helped transform their lives.

Stephanie’s Journey

In 2019, Stephanie faced an unimaginable loss—the passing of her nephew. The grief pushed her into the depths of addiction. On a lonely Christmas Eve, which also happens to be her birthday, Stephanie made a decision that would change her life forever: she adopted Dice. Dice’s pure, loving spirit inspired Stephanie to fight for sobriety and seek the help she desperately needed.

Dice’s Struggles

While in treatment, Stephanie left Dice in the care of a roommate she thought she could trust. Neglect led to severe injuries for Dice, but fate intervened when our partners at Dogs Matter found her a loving foster home just before a storm hit Dallas. Despite the respite, Dice’s injuries required multiple major medical surgeries, with bills nearing $10,000.

Achieving Milestones

We are thrilled to announce that Stephanie has celebrated one year of sobriety, and Dice is recovering well from his second TPLO surgery. They will be reunited at the beginning of July, ready to face the future together.

I wouldn’t have stayed sober if I had left treatment to get Dice. For that, I will always be grateful to Dogs Matter and their team of angels. – Stephanie

Nala’s owner met PASS volunteers at a vaccine clinic and got help with medical support and transportation for Nala’s mass removal. Surgery was successful, and Nala’s owner was beyond grateful.

Without the needed surgeries, Dice would have lived a life of limited mobility and excruciating pain. Thanks to PASS & the Champions Club, they have both completed treatment and can look forward to a long, healthy future together.
