DPA’s Pawsome People: August 2019 Leadership Spotlight

“Danica has taken on her role as Foster Director with such a fresh and positive approach. Danica has been working to improve and streamline processes, engage and support fosters at a higher level, and always does so with a calm, compassionate and objective approach. Danica has taken time away from her family and personal life to attend two Maddie’s Fund Apprenticeships to deepen her knowledge and gain new ideas about building foster programs, returning with wisdom to share with DPA so we are always continuously improving. Danica collaborates closely with the Rescue, Adoption, Alumni and Transport teams and is always a great partner open to new ideas and approaches to increase our life-saving and support our foster network’s needs.” -Andra Adams, DPA’s VP of Animal Operations

Danica is one of kind and the type of leader who truly does it all without hesitation. Read more about her below:

What does your role within DPA involve? What do you oversee within the organization?

As the Foster Director, I am here to support foster parents through their fostering journey and ensure they have a great experience! I take a great sense of ownership in each and every animal in our program and feel every emotion alongside their foster parents through every up and down on their way to their forever homes.

What is your professional background?

I am a Calligrapher and Illustrator specializing in wedding invitations 🙂

How long have you been involved with the organization?

Three, fun life-changing years!

What drives you to dedicate your time to DPA?

The hoomans! Working from home can be very isolating. I have always had a passion for animals, but didn’t realize how much I would enjoy the relationships that come from being involved with like-minded people!

On average, how many hours per week do you volunteer?

Obsessively. Haha, but realistically as much as I can. We are saving lives!

Tell us a fun fact about yourself.

I wasn’t allowed to have dogs growing up until I BEGGED my parents for a bulldog when I was 16. Now, I have 5 dogs and a 20lb giant rabbit. Petunia the bulldog is still plugging away 13 years later and living the golden girl life with my mama.
