Dallas Pets Alive! Partnership with QuakeCon 2024 Results in Many Successful Pet Adoptions

Dallas Pets Alive! (DPA) was back at QuakeCon again this year and hosted pet adoption events at the 27th annual bring-your-own-computer gaming convention at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center in Grapevine, Texas. QuakeCon is widely considered the “Woodstock of the gaming world” with an unofficial motto of “peace, love and rockets.” This year it was peace, love and PET ADOPTIONS as several cats and dogs from DPA, some with long medical and foster histories, found their forever homes.

Our DPA volunteers staffed a very popular Cat Cafe during the multi-day event and often had a long line of pet lovers extending out the door. Those in attendance held, cuddled and played with many of our DPA cats and kittens. Everyone seemed to fall in love with the adorable foster pets and several successful pet adoptions resulted.

Kitten siblings Post Oak and Acorn have been ready for adoption on the DPA website for several months and both went home with pet-loving gamers. Lucille and Kaboom’s foster families also took them to the event in hopes of finding their forever families and they are also on our list of successful pet adoptions.

One of our Olympic kittens, Suni Lee, met her new dad after he saw a Dungeons and Dragons-themed poster of her and knew he had to meet her. After their second meet and greet at the Adoption Container, he decided to take her home!

Tapioca, an adorable orange tabby, was apprehensive of all the activity at the Cat Cafe and preferred the safety of her stroller. Her new dad, a 13-year QuakeCon veteran, didn’t seem to mind her shyness and knew she was the one for him.

Pet adoptions of senior pets, especially those with ongoing medical conditions, can be particularly difficult and as a result, they can remain in foster care for an extended period. The long journey to a forever home for Frittata, a nine-year-old tabby cat, finally concluded at this year’s QuakeCon. After being previously adopted and returned due to her food allergies, she has patiently waited for re-adoption on the DPA website for over six months and finally went home with the grandparents-in-law of our very own DPA founder, Leslie Sans.

Rei, a 3 year-old shepherd mix, was brought to DPA through Dogs Matter, a program which provides temporary foster care for companion animals while their owners are in treatment facilities or otherwise getting back on their feet. Unfortunately, Rei’s owner ultimately made the hard decision to put her up for adoption but we are so happy to report she also has found her new forever home with a couple at QuakeCon.

Clover is one step closer to adoption

There was also good news for our sweet Clover, the two-year-old husky mix, who found her way to DPA over one year ago as a pregnant stray. Despite the best of medical care, she sadly lost her entire litter of puppies. Through no fault of her own, she has stayed with several foster families since then and most recently has been staying with one of our boarding partners. Our dedicated volunteers have had Clover out and about in the community at several pet adoption events and also on regular doggie daycations and sleepovers.

Clover attended QuakeCon looking for her perfect foster or adoptive family and we are happy to report, she found a new foster family who will hopefully become her forever home.

We are so grateful to all our community partners who help us amplify our message about the importance of pet adoption and help us find forever homes for some very special companion animals.
