Kaine (New Digs)

Age: Adult
Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier
Gender: Male
Location: New Digs Owner’s Home

Meet Kaine (New Digs)!

Meet Kaine! He is a 6-year-old 45 lb., 1/2 Pit and Red Heeler, is sweet, funny, happy, affectionate, kind, loving soul, and a very loyal boy. Unfortunately, he has not had a stable home except for the last 3 years when my daughter and I began fostering him. He shares our home with my 14-year-old small dog. He respects her and knows his place in the pack.

Kane is a fast learner and is eager to please. Learning commands comes easy for him. Currently, he knows basic commands like sit, stay, down, heal, and wait (to eat). We don’t get him out for walks as much as we would like too. He has been allowed on the furniture but recently I’ve been working on keeping him off, in case his new owner doesn’t allow pets on the furniture.

He makes a great alarm system because he warns you when a stranger comes to the door. Once people are inside and he knows everything is ok, he stops barking and his tail wags like crazy! He is so happy to see everyone!

To my knowledge, he’s never been around children or cats, so I don’t know how he would react but I’m guessing it would be positive since he’s never shown any sign of aggression. He gets jealous of other animals getting attention, but his response is to whine, not growl or be mean.

Kaine thinks he’s a lap dog and does prefer to sit and sleep next to a human but he’s also ok if he’s asked to get off the couch or bed. He sleeps on mostly natural fibers like cotton and his bedding is never washed with downy or any detergent or fabric softener with “fragrances” because it tends to irritate his skin.

Things Kane LOVES:
· Car rides – could go for hours with his head out of the car, smelling all the smells and feeling the wind.
· Being outside and sunbathing on a comfortable day.
· All walks – long or short he is always ready to go!!!
· Chewing on sticks and acorns – rawhide bones (plain, no flavorings or coatings).
· Positive verbal feedback, i.e., “Good boy Kaine!!”
· Lots of affection – petting, rubbing, snuggling
· Very content just being with his person!

Kane’s Pluses:
· Wants a pack leader – he’s like a small child, looking to his parents to let him know he’s ok.
· Knows basic commands.
· Crate trained – he will often go in the crate on his own. I usually give him a raw hide while he is there. But mostly he is left out of his crate.
· Uses doggie door and is potty trained
· Not food aggressive
· When he is called, he responds.
· Stops barking on command and with lots of verbal praise- immediately stops, even if another dog continues to bark.
· Moderate energy – but will match his human behavior.
· He just loves people – male and female.
· Friendly with other dogs – on submissive side.
· Never hurt a human or animal – no signs of aggression.
· Good leash manners

Why I Need to Find His Forever Home: Because my new townhome has no yard. My daughter and her dog will not be joining me. This will leave Kaine alone all day with no access to a yard which he really needs.

Food: Kaine is fed twice a day and eats Blue Buffalo dry dog food. He can at times have a sensitive stomach. Since we’ve changed his diet and he’s had a stable, predictable environment, he hasn’t had any issues. He eats around other dogs and there has never been a problem. When I first got him, I separated him to be safe but now both dogs are fed at the same time. If the chihuahua comes close to his food bowl, he does nothing – he submits and lets her eat it. (again – no human food, including meat)

Medical / Medicines:
· 3/10/25 – Neutered, all shots and flea/tick/heartworm prevention and microchipped
· Currently uses Burts Bees “itch soothe” shampoo
· When given a bath, use a small amount of Ketoconazole 2% around his neck area and tail as a preventative to possible sensitive skin. Rinse and dry well.

What’s Best for Kane:
· Tons of unconditional love and attention
· Cuddling
· Another fur-baby would be perfect but not necessary.
· Outdoor time.
