Gaia (New Digs)

Age: Senior
Breed: Domestic Medium Hair
Gender: Female

Meet Gaia (New Digs)!

Gaia is an affectionate 11 y/o and 9 lb Domestic Mediumhair cat. Her back is grey and her paws and underbelly are white. She has eyes as beautiful as gems, fur as soft as cashmere, and meows that are as sweet as syrup. When Gaia meets you for the first time, she will sniff you before promptly head-butting your hand to receive pets and walking in circles around you to rub her scent all over. She is vocal and will gently meow for attention if you get distracted while petting her. If you spend enough time with her and she is comfortable in her space, she may curl up in your lap for a little snooze or sleep beside you on the couch! After a little while she may choose to run up her cat tree and bask in the sunlight filtering through your window.

Gaia has an unknown history before being adopted by me a year ago from a nearby cat cafe. She is spayed, microchipped, and has just received her yearly vaccines in June 2024. Her lab tests are normal besides a bit of proteinuria. Her front paws were unfortunately declawed by a previous owner. As a result of her age and digestive system history, she eats primarily non-seafood wet food with probiotics and graze feeds on dry cat food. Gaia is not particularly active in the daytime. She has a short attention span for toys. Of all the toys that exist, she enjoys feather-on-string toys, silvervine sticks, and food puzzles. She is enthusiastic about being pet anywhere besides her belly and loves being brushed! While she loves cuddling, she does feel claustrophobic if she is held too close or cornered. Gaia likes to do zoomies while you sleep at night. If you’re having a bad day, she knows and will purr loudly on/next to you to calm you down.

It is unknown whether she is good with dogs and children, but it is known that she can be selective about her cat buddies. Her territorial behavior indicates that she can feel threatened by other pets and prefers being the only pet in the household, but nothing is certain. I could see Gaia responding positively to the energy of children but she is also particular about the way she is handled and may create distance if someone is too grabby. Gaia would do best in a home with human(s) frequently in the space she occupies. Her ideal owner(s) work from home and do not travel frequently.

Gaia is litter box trained, however, she will pee outside the litter box if she is stressed or unhappy. Because she is declawed in her front paws, it is important to have soft litter that is gentle on her paws. Gaia does not know any special tricks, however, she does understand boundaries. This doesn’t mean she isn’t smart! She is a whiz at solving food puzzles and can escape zippered enclosures that aren’t buckled. Though she is an escape artist, she has absolutely zero desire to be outside the comfort of a well-kept home.

I am rehoming Gaia because my lifestyle is incompatible with hers. I travel quite frequently for work, and I prefer spending much of my leisure time outdoors. Because I live alone and don’t let her inside my bedroom for health reasons, she isn’t receiving as much attention as she desires. She deserves a more loving home that matches her affectionate energy.
