Meet Buddy IX (New Digs)!

Meet Buddy IX, your new Instagram model! He is a 14-month-old, 40 lb, red heeler mix with the sweetest face and silliest personality. He was a street rescue, right in front of our house in the Medical District! At that time, our vet was sure he was around 4 months old. We had found him a home in San Antonio, but after 4 months, he was given back to us, due to nipping. He is neutered, chipped, and up-to-date with all of his vaccinations and treatments.

Buddy is an extremely playful and active dog who loves long walks and playing with water. He is good with people and other dogs his size or smaller (with proper introduction). He plays well with our 4 dogs, especially our 11 lb female Frenchie mix. They are both energetic puppies, and he is very gentle when wrestling with her. He has been lunged at by some bigger dogs so he can be timid around them. We are uncertain about his disposition toward cats – he has met 2 cats and showed no aggression, just overly curious which annoyed the cats. We’ve put in a lot of work to train and his previous owner also invested in professional dog training to curb any less-than-desirable behaviors. He had food aggression when we found him (common with street rescues) and we’ve worked hard to fix that by touching him while he eats. Now, he only eats when given the OK – we have several video recordings. We noticed he is sometimes territorial over toys, and this is something we’re still working on correcting. We also do our best to desensitize him to noises such as car horns, doorbells, other animal noises, etc. He is very sweet, but a lot of his past and potential triggers are unknown. The ideal home for him will have a huge yard for him to run around, and at least 1 playmate.

Buddy is crate/leash/house trained, and knows all the tricks (place, sit, paw, shake, down, crawl, heel, etc.)! He is very food-driven, and therefore very easy to train.

This sweet and noodle-y boy deserves the best. Are you looking for a cuddle buddy? Apply to adopt BUDDY today!
