What is your current role?

I am the Assistant Social Media Director

How did you get involved with volunteering at DPA?

I started volunteering at the beginning of the pandemic when I had lost my job. Like many others, I was just wanting to use my skills in a way that helped others (and animals) while I had some free time! Since I started volunteering, I have learned so much and gained great skills that are now used in my current job, made friends that I go to for advice, and have an entirely new outlook on animal rescue – it is so impressive what we do each and every day!

What are you most passionate about at DPA?

Being on the social and marketing team, we touch every element of an animal’s journey. From intake to fostering, medical needs all the way to adoption, we get to watch (and tell) that animal’s story on social media. My absolute favorite part is when we nurture an animal back to health and then we get the photos of the happiest little pup or cat with their new forever family. I truly believe that you can see the joy on an animal’s face once they have found their perfect home. We’ve even shed tears writing posts for these animals – we love a good Happy Tails!

What are some words of wisdom to new DPA Volunteers?

Ask questions and get to know your team, in whichever way you can! The quickest way you learn is by asking questions and no question is dumb (pretty sure I am STILL asking what some acronyms mean – haha). Also, schedule some one-on-one time to get to know your teammates. We all have a common goal and it’s helpful to learn other people’s experiences and perspectives. You never know what you could learn!

Give us a fun fact about you!

Like many others, our family had a household of pets. As a kid, we had 2 guinea pigs, 1 hamster, many fish, 1 turtle, 2 cats and 1 chinchilla. Needless to say, we loved having snuggle critters in our home (even a snuggly turtle).
