DPA’s Pawsome People: June 2020 Volunteer Spotlight

“Michele is a true DPA superstar and is a true blessing to this organization. Not only is she an amazing foster who loves to foster puppies, she also holds multiple volunteer roles within DPA. Michele is a leader on our Alumni Team, a very special and unique role to DPA designed to support our adopters even after adoptions are complete. Michele literally has a heart the size of Texas and works tirelessly to support both people and their pets. In addition to that, Michele is an adoption event lead, working to make our events fun, engaging, safe and organized. And as if that is not enough, Michele also assists our foster team with reviewing foster applications and has also assisted on our medical team. Michele’s deep and genuine love for people and pets make her a truly Pawsome Person and we are thrilled to have her as part of DPA!” -Andra, DPA’s VP of Animal Operations”

Michele’s numerous roles in DPA from fostering, volunteering at events, and supporting humans and animals post adoption is what DPA is all about! Read more about her below:

What are your current roles?

My current roles are Alumni Team, Events Lead, and I help with foster applications and the support squad to give fosters support and training advice.

How did you get involved with volunteering or fostering with DPA?

6 years ago I ran into Wendy at an event that Community Beer Co. was having. We almost adopted a dog there, but instead decided to foster for DPA! to bring a pup friend into our cat family. At that time we had 5 cats along with 13 and 14 year old pups. We were only going to foster until we adopted 2, but that was 6 years ago. We did end up adopting DPA alum Sadie and Charity.

What are you most passionate about at DPA?

I want to save as many animals as possible.

Tell us about your favorite foster or adoption stories.

I have great memories of all my fosters and could tell you great stories of all of them. Zach and Zelda will always have a special place in my heart. I remember getting the call while I was in Vegas and we were going to take a break, but they were in such need of some love. We had them the longest of all our fosters trying to get them healthy again. They both have fantastic homes that were perfect for their personalities.

What are some words of wisdom to new DPA Volunteers or Fosters?

I would tell them that this is a great organization with some wonderful people. I grew to love all of them and some have become wonderful friends. I will also state that we have great resources to reach out if they need something or someone, because remember it takes a village to do what we do and FYI we have a great village.

Give us a fun fact about you!

Not sure if I have a fun fact but I love living life to the fullest so I typically hangout with my friends almost everyday. We usually take a destination trip every year and managed to squeeze in a trip to Egypt right before the crazy started.

Closing I want to thank everyone in DPA! for all the great memories also for nominating me as the June Pawsome Person.
