Board Member Spotlight: Tammi Carter

Tammi wasn’t raised with any pets, so the joy she felt when she attended a Dallas Pets Alive! adoption event at Hollywood Feed 9 years ago and saw sweet Canella for the first time was unforgettable. It was love at first sight. Canella was skinny and recovering from being a stray, and Tammi just knew she was meant to be part of their family. She is forever grateful to DPA for saving Canella. When Tammi and her family wanted to give Canella a sibling, they went back to DPA and found her sister, Lexi.

The positive experience Tammi had as an adoptee of two amazing dogs inspired her to join the board. She also loved the mission of the organization and wanted to help DPA! thrive and scale.

Tammi loves some of the new opportunities Dallas Pets Alive! has with programs like Dog’s Matter. She finds it amazing to help people in recovery keep their animals. Pets can be an important part of their recovery, and DPA can help them stay together while they focus on getting better. This is a win for both the pet and the pet parent.

Throughout her tenure on the board, Tammi leverages her expertise in scaling and growing organizations to aid DPA in its ongoing expansion and program development efforts. Each board member contributes their passion for animal welfare and specialized skills to further DPA’s mission of safeguarding animals in the DFW area.

Tammi holds a special passion for the PASS program, as its mission deeply resonates with her. The PASS program is such an innovative way to keep animals out of shelters. Many people have faced challenging times over the past few years. Imagine the pain of not being able to care for your beloved pet, or having to choose between your children or your pet. With PASS, they can provide support, offer people options, and keep these animals out of shelters.

Tammi believes that everyone can make an impact. “I love that DPA offers so many different ways to get involved. I encourage everyone to find something they can do to protect animals. It might be a small donation on social media to help a rescued animal that needs extra medical care. It could be attending a great party like the Soirée and helping us fundraise for the year. Or you can volunteer in various capacities. If we all pitch in just a little bit, together we can make a big difference.” – Tammi Carter
