Meet Tofu (New Digs)!

Meet Tofu! He is an 8-month-old orange cat and was born on May 19th, 2024. I am not sure what his breed is since he is a rescue. He is currently 8-9 pounds, with very big green eyes, and an orange/white coat. He was found abandoned, very sick and malnourished at 3 weeks ol,d and was found alongside his mom and other siblings but was immediately abandoned when they were found. He was the smallest and most sick, and it was very hard to tell whether or not he would make it through the night, so I took him in to get him healthy and give him a brand new chance at life and he has made a whole 360! His health improved in a matter of weeks, after he became old enough and healthy I was able to get him neutered, microchipped and all updated on his shots.

As far as his behavior, it is mild and could improve. He has that typical “orange cat energy” but I have taken some time and effort to help him improve his behavior which he is doing a great job at and will most likely improve as he matures and ages but could use some human help still. He loves to play with his toys such as wand toys, tunnels he can run through and stuffed animals, and it’s pretty easy to redirect him to his toys when he mistakes your hands as toys. However, once he gets his energy out he becomes a very mellow cat that loves to sleep on you and loves head scratches even more. He is also very food driven which can be a great help for behavioral training, his favorite treats are the squeezable cat treats, dry treats, and of course some catnip every once in a while.

Although they can co-exist and chill together when he is calm, I do have a 5-year-old resident family cat that is very shy and already doesn’t like/do well with other cats, Tofu is very playful however he can be a little aggressive with my other cat out of curiosity and playfulness, so I feel that he would most likely thrive in an environment where he is the only cat or with cats closer to his age as well as no small children, he would most likely thrive with an owner that is at least 18+. He is a very smart cat, he knows how to open doors, especially the ones that have a longer handle but my assumption is that he just wants to feel included, however, I do have child locks outside of my door to put up when I’m not home. He loves to sleep on top or under soft blankets and is a very easily pleased cat.

Overall, Tofu is a great cat to have around, the only reason why he is looking for a new home is because of my own health issues. I am hoping to find someone who shows patience and love towards him as well as someone who is willing to work with him. He would be a great companion and the best play partner. I haven’t leashed trained him but I feel that he could benefit from walks and being outside as well, he is litter box trained and very healthy.
