“Alyssa holds two roles within DPA! that tie together multiple Animal Operations teams. She works hand-in-hand with Rescue Team, Foster Team, and Medical Team taking on lots of varying administrative work off of the Directors and Assistant Directors to allow them to focus on big picture items. Since joining DPA! as a volunteer, she has made the entire evaluation, pulling, and returning as-needed processes so much easier on volunteers and fosters. Her constant desire to help DPA! improve processes and write new policy has been a huge help to all involved and allows us new perspective on situations and insight to implementing better strategy. Alyssa stepping into this role has also allowed us to move at a faster pace with the opportunities emails, the new pulls, and working with Dallas Animal Shelter. She has shown to be a vital part of this DPA! machine and offers strategic thinking and a passion for animal welfare we are thrilled to have the opportunity to work alongside.” – Jessica Weinstein, Vice President of Animal Operations for Dallas Pets Alive!
This is why Alyssa Gross is a DPA! Pawesome Person!
What is your current role?
Shelterluv Coordinator, Post-Pull Admin, and Borrow Kittens Admin
How did you get involved with volunteering at DPA!?
I got involved with DPA! after a friend of mine told me about the organization. Since then, we’ve had two or more friends sign up to foster!
What are you most passionate about at DPA!?
I’m passionate about the mission, of course, but also about identifying and designing processes, and improvements that will enable the organization to grow more quickly and seamlessly to impact the lives of more animals.
What are some words of wisdom to new DPA! volunteers?
Try to think about how your strengths and talents could be translated into your work at DPA! Even if it doesn’t seem like your volunteer role has anything to do with your day job or hobbies, you may end up finding the perfect opportunity to use those skills to help improve or create something great for the organization!
Give us a fun fact about you!
I have a one-eyed cat named Pirate who I foster-failed after taking in his litter when they were babies! He’s always making me laugh and he’s the coolest cat around — he has an Instagram account to prove it! @PirateTheOneEyedCat
