DPA’s Pawesome Person: September Foster Spotlight

What makes Jim so awesome is that he doesn’t shy away from any sort of foster case and he will take on a foster for as long as it takes. Jim is all about commitment until his fosters are adopted and tends to go for the adult bully breeds or other looked over animals. Jim’s fosters get to enjoy all the pleasures a dog could ask for including movie nights and day trips to the beach! We are so lucky to have him as a foster for us! – Stefanie Steiner, Foster Director for Dallas Pets Alive!

This is why Jim Butts is one of Dallas Pet’s Alive’s PAWesome People!

How did you get involved with Fostering with DPA?

Two of my friends started fostering in Dallas Pets Alive. Soon after, I joined them fostering dogs.

Tell us about a few of your fosters.

A few weeks after I started fostering Shawn, he was transferred to Pennsylvania to “It’s Ruff Without a Roof”, another adoption group we partner with. They posted pictures of him running in a field with other dogs.

Sparkle is my “foster-fail”. She did not do well at adoption events or at Meet and Greets with potential adopters but she is a wonderful dog that I eventually adopted myself.

What is your favorite animal adoption story?

Sadie is a beautiful Blue Healer who was heartworm positive. She received an application and went to a Meet and Greet with two weeks left in her treatment. She immediately bonded with their current dog and enjoyed the nearby dog park. They adopted her and accepted her early, agreeing to finish her treatment.

What do you love most about fostering with Dallas Pets Alive?

I enjoy taking dogs through the process from being unhappy in the shelter situation to being calm and relaxed at my home.

Give us a fun fact about you!

I traveled across East Germany by train to Berlin and crossed through Checkpoint Charlie into East Berlin.
