As Preston celebrates his first birthday, he’s showing off his new grown-up skills. When out and about on leash, he knows to sit patiently waiting to cross streets and letting other busy dogs push past him without a fuss. So far, he equates his crate with mealtime, so he’s a big fan of launching himself inside when he’s dining. It’s also a comfortable spot for him as he settles in and curls up with his squeaky bear.
He’s doing a wonderful job getting to know strangers, but still wants to play like a puppy with other dogs. He’ll take a pass on spending time with cats. Food puzzles and agility classes will allow him to use his goofiness, energy, and intelligence to transform into a grown-up guy. He’s smart and attentive, which will help him learn how to let go of his puppy traits while he’s outgrowing his puppy features, too.
Belly rubs allow him unwind from his active day. He’s adjusting to his growing exterior and handles best in the hands of middle schoolers through adults who are equally active and savvy in helping him to polish his adult-dog smarts. Get this boy out for a run and you’ll see how bright his golden highlights look in the sunshine. Let him learn to ride in the car and spend time in his own yard so he can adjust to the world around him. Best of all, as you welcome him into your home, you’ll help Preston become his best big-boy self.
