Meet Mable, a 1.5-year-old, 39-pound Catahoula mix. She has all the qualities you could want. She’s goofy, loving, playful, and a real people-pleaser! When she’s excited she gets full-body wiggles, she’s excited all the time so she does quite a bit of wiggling. Mable has been at the Fort Worth Animal Shelter since December 2023, and before that was in and out of the shelter, all for things unrelated to her. She has spent most of her life at the shelter, which has made her a bit shy, but she opens up quickly and loves to cuddle and come to you for pets. She is very healthy and is up to date on all her vaccines. She has also been spayed and is on heartworm prevention as well as flea and tick prevention.
Mable prefers playing over anything else. Sometimes she’s throwing the ball for herself, chewing on her favorite toy, or trying to entice other pups to play with her. She also gets zoomies at least once a day! She can play by herself, but all that alone time in the shelter has turned her into a social butterfly. She loves all dogs, big and small, and prefers to end the day cuddled up to her person. She will definitely keep you active with all this playing! The shelter reported that she freezes around cats and prefers to leave them alone. We haven’t seen her with children, but imagine she would do well with respectful, monitored interactions. She will definitely need a yard or someone able to take her on good walks. She is eager to please, quick to learn, and ready to be part of a forever family. She has a kind soul and just wants to be loved and love you.
Mable is practicing her leash training, and is making big strides! She no longer pulls with all her might, but instead follows you most of the time. She is still working on keeping calm when she sees other people or dogs on walks. She just wants to say hi! Mable does well in her crate (especially with a toy) and is house-trained. She will do a small bark to let you know when she needs to go out. Other than that, she rarely barks. She also knows “sit” and “drop it,” which are both important for her because she loves to take her toys outside with her!
We adopted Mable in September but quickly realized my chronic pain would not allow us to meet her needs. Mable has only ever known shelter life, and we do not want her to go back, so we are keeping her as long as she needs us to. She is a perfect pup, and in this short time, we have fallen in love with her. We know she deserves more than to be cooped up in the house.
She will make a wonderful addition to your family. There will be no boring days. She is always impressing us or making us laugh. After you adopt her, go buy a lottery ticket, keep that lucky streak going!
