Grace Il (Gracie, Gracie-Bear, or Gracie-Lou) is a beautiful shepherd mix. She is about 12-14 months old and about 50 lbs. She was adopted into a family with a 13 yr old dog, 2 cats, and an 8 yr old child. At first, she was rather withdrawn, but she has come out of her shell! It is believed that she was feral until she was about 4 months old before coming to DPA.
Gracie loves other animals (all dogs and cats) but is a little wary of people. You can definitely see she wants to be social with humans, but she is still working out what that feels like. She needs one or two well-socialized younger-to-mid-aged-dog(s) to show her the ropes. She was adopted into a house with a geriatric dog who doesn’t want to play and only wants to sleep all day, and Grace is still a bit afraid to play with people. She plays with the cats, but they only tolerate it for 2-3 minutes. She is trying, but this is not the place for her (think of Grace as a teenager living at a retirement home…) She just needs someone she can relate to and play with to show her how it’s done!
She is very food-motivated. She loves other animals and likes people (in her own way). She has started following people rather than the other dog. She has a tough exterior, but she calms down quickly. We have learned that it is all bark, no bite. In fact, the only time she makes contact is when she is trying to play. She is going to be an amazing tug-of-war dog and seems like she really wants to learn to fetch.
Gracie-Bear is adorable and has tons of potential but she requires the right tools. She is not for amateurs and will definitely require another confident, socialized dog(s) for her to emulate and play with. With that, she will see a really massive improvement and will be ready to love her people!
