Meet Alena!
Alena was severely emaciated and rail thin when picked up by Dallas Animal Services as a stray, but her foster mamma fell in love with her beautiful coat, sweet disposition and striking green eyes. Now Alena is focusing on overcoming her shyness and learning to trust again so she will need a forever home that has lots of patience at the beginning. Once you've earned her trust, young Alena just wants to play, play, play and soak in all the love and attention she can get! This goofy, 26-pound girl enjoys tug of war, play biting on your hands and tossing around her favorite toys. Alena really shines and is at her best when outside in the fresh air on walks or in the backyard. While Alena does enjoy a good romp around, she can also be a couch potato when the time calls for it. She enjoys curling up next to her humans on the couch with a nice fuzzy blanket to lay on. Alena is also a peanut butter aficionado and so eager to please! She responds very well to treats and affection, making her easy to train. She learned to stay off her foster parents' bed (unless invited) in less than one hour! She is also already 100% potty-trained. Alena is available for pre-adoption only at this time, as she is heartworm positive. Heartworm disease is a non-contagious and treatable condition in dogs, but is fatal if left untreated. For more information about the spread, treatment, and prevention of heartworms visit:
