DPA’s Cat of the Month – July: Meet Mystique!

DPA’s Cat of the Month – July: Meet Mystique!

Mystique.  Not to be confused with the superhuman X-men character, she is a very special cat!  Maybe she got her name because she has a fascinating aura of mystery about her or maybe she’s chock-full of charisma.  We don’t know, but we know this much, she’s a wonderful little kitty.  Mystique is a female Domestic Short Hair/Tortoiseshell mix who came to Dallas Pets Alive! with a litter of six kittens. She’s been living with her foster mom since that time and is looking for a forever home.   Mystique is a pretty cat with a distinctive look. She has light green eyes and a tortoiseshell coat that is multi-colored brown, black and white.  One side of her face is a mottled brown and the other side is black so she always looks like she’s standing with her right side to the sun. It’s a look that suits her well and could easily be adding to that aura of mystery she’s so famous for.  She’s a young cat, about two years old. This special cat is also a people-lover.  Mystique is gentle, has good manners and a sweet maternal side.  She’s been a great mom to her six kittens and according to her foster, is the perfect house guest who likes to use a scratching post.  She’s very affectionate and loves to sit with you.    When she isn’t cuddling with you, Mystique can be found sitting near a window in the sunshine or sweetly giving face snuggles.  We think she may have been hanging out with some canines because get this, she comes when you call her name.  Not...
DPA’s Dog the Month – July: Meet Gus!

DPA’s Dog the Month – July: Meet Gus!

Meet Gus, a Black Mouth Cur/Mixed with a steady disposition and a love for just about anyone he meets!  He’s an amiable pup who gets along easily with the other foster dogs living with him and quickly bonds to the people around him.  It’s been said that he has never met a person he hasn’t liked! Gus is a handsome, muscular dog with a tan coat and black muzzle. His eyes are a caramel brown and his black-tipped ears flop at half-mast.  He’s a larger dog who is protective and affectionate with his family.   Both friendly and fearless, he would do well in a home with other dogs his size.   Gus is a people-loving pooch with a particular penchant for playtime.  His ropes and chew toys are his favorite distractions and he would just love to teach you how to play with them.  He will also enthusiastically take you on his daily walks.  When playtime is over, his affectionate side will come out as he follows you around the house to get his fill of pets and cuddles.  And you are sure to have a polite housemate because Gus always asks for permission before jumping onto the sofa to lie either next to or on top of you!   Gus will do best with an active family who will provide him with all the love and structure he needs.  He enjoys pleasing his owners and is good with kids.  If Gus finds a family who appreciates his particular charm, he is sure to reward them with years of loyalty and love.   Are you looking for a special...
DPA’s Dog the Month – June: Meet Elliot!

DPA’s Dog the Month – June: Meet Elliot!

Meet Elliott, a Staffordshire Terrier mix with a playful nature known for affectionately following her favorite people around the house and befriending others with her winsome charm.  She’s (yes, Elliot is a girl!) an attractive brown and white pup with a stocky build and deep brown eyes who looks good in a green feather boa but prefers to be seen near–or on top of–her favorite people.  Whether she is curled up in the crook of your knees or playing with the other dogs she lives with, she is an affectionate companion who craves your company.  Elliott was at a local shelter expecting a large family–nine puppies–when Dallas Pets Alive! volunteers first met her.  She shows some scars and hasn’t had an easy life but, against the odds, has learned to trust people and show a whole lotta lovin’ through kisses, hugs and loyal companionship. We are so happy that all of her adorable puppies have found good homes, but now it’s Elliott’s turn to find the right one! Elliott is a strong, smart, athletic lady who would love to live with another dog her size to share her enthusiasm for playing fetch and tug-of-war and just chillin’ out at home.  She’s good with kids, is house and crate-trained, obedient, fun-loving and walks well on a leash.  There’s a lot that’s right with this special pup! You could say she’s the total package.  Could you give Elliot the second chance and forever home she deserves? Apply to adopt her...
DPA’s Cats of the Month – June: Meet the Black Beauties!

DPA’s Cats of the Month – June: Meet the Black Beauties!

Are you a trendsetter?  Are you willing to sport a new style with a new attitude?  We hope so because this season’s “Pet of the Month: Feline Edition” is seeking suitable candidates for its new, fun concept.  We here at DPA! think “Feline is the New Black” and we are ready to show you how truly fashionable you can be with the right darkly-colored kitty by your side.   Move over, Halston…because these black cats are ready to take over the runway and strut their stuff!   Boo–Here’s Boo sporting a luxurious black coat that sets off her beautiful golden eyes.  Balls and feathers are her favorite accessories, so Boo’s new owner should be ready to play.  This fashionable little cat also loves to snuggle up with her favorite people and is never short on conversation.  Boo, you look fabulous!  Raven–We are loving what Raven is doing with her black, silky fur and yellow eyes.  The “panther look” is hot this season and Raven is really working it.  This special cat is known for social skills and great manners.  She’s a cheeky cat who loves to recline on the dog beds when her canine friends are in their kennels.  She puts the “companion” in “companion animal”. Luna — This sophisticated beauty is looking sleek and tre chic in basic black.  She is often seen accessorizing with foil balls, catnip toys and any type of cat toy that dangles.  Luna looks sweet in a pink collar and is as comfortable looking out a window or sitting next to you as she is on the runway.  When she isn’t being fashion-forward,...
DPA’s Cat of the Month – May: Meet Zoe!

DPA’s Cat of the Month – May: Meet Zoe!

Zoe, the name itself means “life” and this sweet little cat sure has the right name because she’s full of love and energy!  Her foster mom describes her as a calm, patient and gentle companion who loves lots of cuddling.  An attractive  Domestic Short Hair Tortoiseshell Mix, her short multi-colored coat of brown, black and tan is offset by a pair of pretty light green eyes.     Zoe loves to play and we hear she is the athletic type.  In fact, she might be secretly watching ping pong tournaments on ESPN and perfecting her own technique because she absolutely loves running around the house at high speeds and playing with ping pong balls.  And if you are in need of a companion for those TV and movie marathons, Zoe is your gal because she treasures quietly hanging out with her family.  When she isn’t on the ping pong court, Zoe is a snuggle bug who has the adorable habit of crawling into the crook of your arm, sitting in your lap or sharing your pillow.   We think Zoe would be happy in a home with another cat companion (she’s the happy “little sister” to another cat in her current foster home)  and maybe some fun kids to follow around the house and join the daily ping pong games.  She loves people of all ages and has been socialized well.     All this little cutie needs now is a permanent home where she can put down roots and snuggle into someone’s arm for good.  Are you able to make Zoe a part of your family?  If you...
