DPA’s Cat of the Month – November: Meet Annie!

DPA’s Cat of the Month – November: Meet Annie!

Annie is a colorful two-year-old Domestic Short Hair/Calico mix with pretty gold eyes. She’s a patchwork quilt of brown, black and white shapes who can certainly hold her own in the cuteness category! This little gal has a sweet personality, is quite talkative and just loves to get some human attention! She may seem a bit shy but she’ll purr the minute you start to pet her and perks up when another friendly cat is there to romp around with. She’s a curious, playful kitty who likes her toys (even at night) and would no doubt enjoy being in a household with the opportunity to play. Annie will need some time to adjust to her new fur-ever home. She was rescued from a hoarding situation and needs some compassionate, patient people to help her learn that she can rely on humans for what she needs. If you have a patient nature, the time you invest in this little cat could pay big dividends. Annie has a lot to offer! Since Annie is our Cat of the Month her adoption fee is 50% off through November 30. If you think she could be the one for you apply to adopt her...
DPA’s Dog the Month – November: Meet Arya Stark!

DPA’s Dog the Month – November: Meet Arya Stark!

This is Arya Stark, an athletic, young, female Pit Bull Terrier/Mixed with a mocha brown coat, white chest and soft gold eyes.  She also lays claim to a big heart with lots of love to dole out!  She’s named for the warrior girl in Game of Thrones, a name she has earned by surviving some trying times. No doubt this pup has a resilient nature.  This Mother’s Day, remember to send Arya a card.  She’s had her own litter of eight (delivering them on Easter, no less) and adopted another puppy as her own, acting as a foster mom to him.  She even runs to the aid of her human kids.  Whenever she senses they are sad or in distress, she swiftly comes to their aid.  All she needs now is a keg around her neck!    Like all good moms, Arya has a clever side.  (Well, let’s face it, with nine puppies you learn to cope.)  She gets along well with other dogs in her household, but has learned to bury her bones in the backyard so she can get some well-deserved chewing time all to herself:)  She will also find a way to cuddle up with you on the sofa and take in those movies.  Smart dog. Arya is house-trained, can use a dog door and enjoys taking rides in the car with her family. After all the nurturing she has done, we think she’s deserved the right forever home with a caring family of her own.  Could this sweet dog be your special companion?  Apply to adopt Arya Stark today! Her adoption fee is 50% off...
DPA’s Cat of the Month – October: Meet Rosie!

DPA’s Cat of the Month – October: Meet Rosie!

Who is this charming, ginger-colored tabby cat with a flowery name and big green eyes?  Meet Rosie, a three-year-old female Domestic Short Hair/Mixed cat with a gentle personality and a love of cuddling!   Rosie is described by her fosters as an ideal roommate and companion.  She certainly seems to have a lot going for her!  She is litter box-trained, never scratches the furniture and even enjoys being combed.  She’s affectionate, loves to have her head petted and will curl up next to you when it’s time for a nap.  If you’re looking for a loyal friend to follow you all over the house, consider inviting Rosie to live with you.  She’s a mellow lounger who is quiet but very loving.   Rosie’s playful side comes out when she chases balls and round objects (even grapes!) all around the house but she is overall, a quiet cat.  She would do well with another mellow cat but preferably no dogs or young kids.   Rosie has been without a permanent home for eight months.  While she has made the adjustment to a couple of foster care situations since February of 2017, she is ready for her much-deserved fur-ever home.  Could you be the right match for the lovely Rosie?  Give us a call or apply to adopt her here! This sweet red rose is ready to be picked.  Now through the end of October Rosie’s adoption fee is half...

DPA’s Dog the Month – October: Meet Rusty!

He’s the color of a fall leaf.  He’s a russet-colored Labrador Retriever/Pit Bull Terrier mix with a loving disposition looking for a fur-ever home this Autumn.  Meet Rusty!   Whether you are making dinner, taking a walk in the leaves, working in the yard or curling up with popcorn and a movie on the sofa, Rusty will be there to be your comfort.  He’s a cuddle-bug who enjoys putting his head in your lap or laying next to you.   Friendly and even-tempered, Rusty can also be a great companion to other dogs and hasn’t met a person he doesn’t like, including the mailman who has been trained to scratch Rusty behind the ears:)  He’s been socialized to live with another dog and seems to be the perfect canine gentleman, knowing when to play and when not to.  He even greets his foster mom with a cute happy howl when she comes through the door each day! Rusty would love to go for a daily walk, play tug-of-war, chase a squeaky toy, go to the dog park or play with another dog.  Here’s a pup who will help you take a walk on those crisp fall days!  If you can’t get out, he is happy to adapt and play with his favorite toys at home. Rusty’s clever foster mom has taught him to stay in a crate, sleep on a dog bed, go potty outside, sit, heel, stay, wait for a command before doing his favorite activities and even shake hands — which he learned in a week!  And she thinks he’s capable of a lot more! 🙂  He’s...

DPA’s Dog the Month – September: Meet Duncan!

DPA’s Dog the Month – September: Meet Duncan!

This is Duncan, an Australian Kelpie/Weimaraner/Mixed with a sable coat that matches the color of a caramel macchiato!  And he’s just as sweet!  He’s an older boy with a great temperament who is looking for a hospice foster or his fur-ever home.  Duncan is a sweet boy with a few special needs. He has kidney disease, which is manageable, but he needs to go out a little more often so easy access to a yard or grassy area would be ideal for him.  Duncan is a smart dog who has spent time with a trainer to learn some basic commands.  He walks extremely well on a leash, loves to take you out for a walk and prefers a stable routine.  And he loves to play!   If you have a tennis ball and know how to play fetch, you might think about becoming Duncan’s best friend and taking him home 🙂   He loves his stuffed toys, too, taking care not to be too rough with them.  We think he’s a well-rounded pup with a lot to offer. Duncan bonds strongly with people and will be a loyal friend to his owner.  He would do best in a home without small children or cats.  He gets along well with other dogs if he’s given the time to be introduced properly, but would most likely prefer to be your one-and-only companion.   Do you think that you could provide the right home to Duncan? Apply to foster him or adopt him today! Now through the end of September his adoption fee is half...
