DPA’s Dog the Month – April: Meet Gus!

Meet Gus: Are you looking for a good-looking, intelligent, loyal companion who would love to cuddle up next to you every day? Meet Gus! His foster mom calls him “a sweet, smart gentleman” and we couldn’t agree more. Much like Gus Gus from Cinderella, our Gus is a cuddle bug and can often be found on the sofa next to whoever is there to love him back. In true gentleman form, he always asks for permission before jumping up onto the furniture, too. If only we could train humans to be so polite! Yea, we are looking at you, Lady Tremaine (Stepmother to Cinderella)! Gus also gets along well with the two other dogs in his foster home and loves to take walks and play with his chew and rope toys. His foster mom also describes him as being very calm, as all gentleman dogs should be. Gus is a healthy, two-year-old, male that found himself on the rescue list at Dallas Animal Services. His coat has a soft brown color with black-tipped ears and a dark muzzle. A pair of soulful black eyes and a frisky tail make him a pretty cute pup. Heck, this dapper dude found himself on TV recently in CW33’s episode of Ruff Life. Click here to see him in action. Adopt Gus: Gus has had a rocky start in life but has done well in his foster home and needs someone who will provide him with unconditional love and lots of pets and cuddles. Maybe you are the person who will open your heart and your home to this charming gentleman dog. If you are,...
DPA’s Cat of the Month – April: Meet Pru

DPA’s Cat of the Month – April: Meet Pru

Our April Cat of the Month is a delightful little calico cat named Pru. According to ancient Japanese folklore, calico cats were believed to guide fishermen safely through storms. Pru has never been a good luck charm on a Japanese fishing boat, but we do know that she’s a wonderful feline companion and that her resilient spirit has helped her through some rough storms of her own. About Pru: Pru is young, just three years old. She’s a Domestic Short Hair/Mixed (short coat). Check out the photos and you’ll see that she’s a very pretty, photogenic girl! Her bright green eyes stand out against her white, tan and gray calico patches. Pru’s foster mom says she’s a smart cat, too. We know she will be a great pet for someone. Pru’s Beginnings: Pru and her sisters were a litter of kittens living outside in a feral colony when Dallas Pets Alive’s Trap, Neuter & Release (TNR) team found them. They were too young to release back in the wild, so a wonderful foster stepped up to the plate to take care of them while they waited for their furrever homes. Adopt Pru: She is trying to gain trust in people and is a bit hesitant because of her rough start in life, however with the right care and some time, we know she will do just fine. Pru gets along well with other animals and is in good health. With the help of the kind folks at Dallas Pets Alive, Pru is looking to find a permanent home. Are you a patient cat lover? Do you have a quiet home...

About Batman: Batman has been described as the feline version of a superhero. Well, he does love to play. Whether he is chasing newspaper sticks and balls or practicing massage therapy techniques on your chest, his outgoing personality shines through. He even has a special love of the shower! His foster mom says he comes running into the bathroom every morning to watch the shower spray and sits next to the bath tub to enjoy it. He sounds like a cat who loves life! And when it’s time to take off the cape and mask, he loves being affectionate to both adults and kids, making him a wonderful pet.   About Sirius Black: Sirius Black is the other half of this feline equation. He also loves people and other cats. He is the sidekick to his extraverted brother, enjoys playing with him, and often seeks out affection from his human family. His foster mom says he will gently grab your hand when he wants you to pet him. During quiet times, he will often look out the window with his brother at his side. Their Beginnings: These two boys had a rough start to their lives when their mom went missing. These two litter mates were left to...

DPA’s Cat the Month – February: Meet Millie!

DPA’s Cat the Month – February: Meet Millie!

This is Millie, an attractive black-and-white kitty with a soft heart who has transformed from a scared stray to a great lap cat! The rocky path behind her might surprise you, especially when you see how friendly she has become with people and other cats. She’s changed before our eyes, and we couldn’t be happier for her! And everyone is the winner because Millie is going to make a wonderful companion for someone in her new forever home. Millie’s Beginnings: When she first went into her foster home, Millie was very timid and preferred to hide. Like most rescued animals, Millie had been through a lot just trying to survive on her own. She was traumatized and didn’t know who she could trust. Fortunately for her, Dallas Pets Alive came along and linked her with her foster mom. Millie spent about a month hiding from her patient foster mom, Caroline, and the other cat in the household. She used her black-and-white markings to blend into the lights and shadows of Caroline’s home, fearful of all contact with the world past her paws. Time is a great healer though, and with Caroline’s compassion, Millie eventually made some tentative steps out into a more cheerful world, leaving the security of her haven under the bed and sofa, and even forming a friendship with Caroline’s other cat! That was about a year ago, and since then, Millie has transformed from a shy feline into an affectionate pet who is a full-fledged member of the household with enough confidence to greet house guests and visitors. She’s come a long way! Now we want...
